Peer Team members help law enforcement officers and families cope with the stress of dealing with disasters and tragedies they encounter as part of their jobs. SCLEAP Peer Team members traveled to New York City in October 2001 to help the rescue workers in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Peer Team members are trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and are able to provide stucture in times of chaos, helping those close to a tragedy disclose their emotions, and assist in releasing psychological tension.
